Change in LCD Leadership – A Letter from the Board

May 17, 2024

Dear Friends of LCD,

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Legal Clinic for the Disabled, it is my privilege to announce some significant changes within the leadership of the organization. While we are happy for her, we are sad to announce that we will lose Linda Peyton as Executive Director to her retirement, effective May 31, 2024. Linda has been with LCD since 2003, serving as Executive Director for the past 15 years, dramatically growing the number of clients served and creating partnerships that have beneficially transformed the way clients in need can access an advocate.

With every decision she has made as an attorney and a nonprofit leader, Linda has defended, promoted, and protected her clients’ interests. LCD clients, stakeholders, volunteers, and all Philadelphians have benefitted from her steady, dedicated leadership. The Board of Directors is grateful to Linda for her quiet, competent strength at the helm and at the heart of LCD. We wish her the best and hope she enjoys her well-deserved retirement.

The Board is delighted to announce the appointment of Theresa Brabson as Linda’s successor. On the staff of LCD since 2013, Theresa has served as Legal Director on the executive leadership team for the past five years. Theresa’s dedication to the Clinic and its mission is evident to anyone who knows and has worked with her. She is the natural successor to Linda Peyton as Linda and Theresa worked side by side to construct the partnerships that have greatly expanded the reach of LCD. As Executive Director, Theresa will continue and enhance the sustainability of the organization and its impact on the lives of people with disabilities and chronic health conditions in the region.

LCD’s new leader was thoughtfully selected. The Board grounded our decision in a clear understanding of the organization’s mission, the strategic risks and opportunities facing LCD, and the goals outlined in the strategic plan we are currently finalizing. Theresa’s experience at the Clinic demonstrates her understanding of the organization. She has solid relationships with many LCD stakeholders, including its funding partners. Under her leadership, LCD will be poised to continue its growth and exceptional service to its clients.  The Board is excited for the Clinic’s future under Theresa’s leadership.

With the planned overlap in the next two months, the transition from Linda’s to Theresa’s leadership will be seamless. We are so fortunate that, under Linda, LCD has been engaged in next generation leadership development, nurturing internal leaders for many years. Linda has generously offered to remain available for guidance as needed.

Please know that the LCD Board of Directors is committed to ensuring the stability, continuity, and sustainability of LCD, for the ultimate, long-term benefit of its clients and stakeholders. We hope you will join us in thanking Linda and welcoming and supporting Theresa. A search will begin immediately for the next Legal Director of the Clinic.
