Xavier O’Connor
Staff Attorney
(he/him)
Xavier joined LCD in 2023 as a staff attorney for the Housing Initiative. In his role, he represents tenants in eviction proceedings at landlord-tenant court and advises clients in other tenant-related matters like habitability or fair housing issues. Xavier is from New York: he was born in Brooklyn, spent some of his childhood in Rosedale, Queens, and the rest of it in Valley Stream, Long Island. Xavier graduated from Williams College with a B.A. in Sociology in 2014 and earned his J.D. from Temple Law in 2020. He loves the client-focused nature of the work he does at LCD; being able to work with clients while they are dealing with tough situations and helping them achieve positive legal outcomes feels rewarding. Xavier’s favorite things about LCD are his colleagues, and he feels lucky to be in an environment with people who are equally passionate about legal aid. Xavier appreciates being able to openly collaborate while working through clients’ legal issues or commiserate in situations when it turns out that there isn’t more that LCD can do.
Favorite quote: “You cannot carry out fundamental change without a certain amount of madness. In this case, it comes from nonconformity, the courage to turn your back on the old formulas, the courage to invent the future. It took the madmen of yesterday for us to be able to act with extreme clarity today. We must dare to invent the future.” – Thomas Sankara
